At the time, they read "MEHLVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT" on the sides. In 1937, the state of Missouri mandated that school transportation should be free for students. A local election was then held during the summer of 1937 to authorize the purchase of three buses for the Mehlville School District."
