1984 Thomas Saf-T-Liner ER

Year: 1984

Model: Thomas Saf-T-Liner ER with a Caterpillar 3208 V8 diesel engine, and Allison automatic transmission, air brakes, air horn, and an air door.

ID: 16

Owner/Operator: Midwest Transit Equipment, Eaton Rapids, Michigan

Location: Midwest Transit Equipment, Eaton Rapids, Michigan

This bus was retrofitted with a multiplexed 8 way warning light system when Michigan required buses manufactured after October 1, 1990 to be equipped with 8 way warning lights.  Districts would not be reimbursed to retrofit older buses, however many did.

Ordinarily I do NOT like to use photographs posted on eBay, but the following pictures of this same bus appeared on eBay at separate times.  The first two appear to have been taken at the same Midwest Transit location. Those after that were taken in California.  I wanted to feature the photos to show how far buses sometimes stray after they are retired.

Oddly, the turn signals on these light monitors were represented with red LEDs rather than amber ones.  The '85 Saf-T-Liner ERs in my hometown were like this as well, but I have not seen a Doran ELMO with red turn signals on any other bus.
