From Todd's email:
Mehlville took delivery of these (10) buses in Spring 1979. They were the
first buses in the District's fleet that had no vertical ceiling-to-floor safety
"poles" between the front row of seats. And, in front of the front seats,
was...a seat back! Speaking of which, the seat backs in these new 65-passenger
buses were also much higher to meet new federal guidelines. All these
eye-catching interior changes coupled with International's new tough
high-profile grill and wow...the look of school buses was entering a new era!
Most of these ten buses were in service for Mehlville until 1990. A couple
lingered through 1991 or 1992, though the District repainted them and changed
their fleet numbers each to a single digit.
