| Year: 2002 Model: Blue Bird All American RE ID: A Owner/Operator: First Student UK of First Group Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom Buses from United Kingdom are similar in construction to United States buses but there are some significant differences regarding specifications. This is quoted from an email from the photographer: "1. We have side lights instead of amber marker lights. Side lights are a white light to the front and a red light to the rear and they are as bright as US marker lights. We do have maker lights but only along the side of the bus and normally they are red and white (but we have some Mercedes single Decker built in Germany that have amber ones!)
2. The Tailpipe is facing towards the pavement (sidewalk). In the UK it
has to be at the rear or to the of side.
3. There is no emergency door control on the outside of the bus to open
the main doors
4. UK buses need to have Tachographs fitted. These record the drivers
hours and speed.
5. The speedo[meter] will need to be re-calibrated. The US mile is longer than
the UK mile so when the US speedo[meter] is recording 60 mph the real UK speed
is 70 mph."
Notice that the front warning lights are painted circles, just for effect. As of yet, warning lights are not allowed to be used in the United Kingdom. Photo By: Cliff Jardine |
